Working Income Tax Benefit (WITB)

The Working Income Tax Benefit (WITB) is a refundable tax credit intended to provide tax relief for eligible working low‑income individuals and families who are already in the workforce and to encourage other Canadians to enter the workforce.

You can claim the WITB on line 453 of your 2008 Income Tax and Benefit Return. However, eligible individuals and families may be able to apply for the 2009 advance payments.

The 2009 Federal Budget will increase funding for the WITB. However, advance payments for 2009 will be based on the 2008 rates. Adjustments will be made and full entitlement will be paid out based on the announced increases when the 2009 tax return is filed, providing Schedule 6 is completed.
