The AAP is an exciting on-campus recruitment program, targeting full-time or part-time college and university students in their final year of a diploma or degree program in accounting, finance, business administration, commerce or similar specialty relevant to an auditing position. Documentation confirming graduation during a specified period is required. For the fall 2009 campaign the graduation period is June 1, 2009 to May 31, 2010 in most cases.

The program attracts postsecondary students who have the interest and potential to become auditors with the CRA. A combination of practical work experience, on-the-job coaching and formal training provides an opportunity to develop technical, legislative and auditing skills over a period of twelve months.

Prior work experience in accounting or auditing is not necessary.

Apprentices will begin at the SP-04 level with a starting salary of $47,576. Upon successful completion of the program, apprentices will be appointed to an SP-05 tax auditor position. The expected salary for an SP-05 tax auditor position is currently $51,495.

An agreement between the CRA and the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada (CGA) ensures that a year as an apprentice satisfies the Foundation Level Experience standard and two years in the subsequent auditor position satisfies the Professional Level Experience standard for the CGA designation. CRA employees are reimbursed for the cost of courses taken to earn the CGA designation. Membership dues for CGA, CMA or CICA are also reimbursed.

During September and October 2009 CRA recruiters will be attending Career Fairs or hosting information sessions in selected colleges and universities in the following cities: Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Richmond, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Langley, Abbotsford, New Westminster, Kelowna, Penticton, Kamloops, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Sudbury, Sault Ste Marie, North Bay, Mississauga, Toronto, Scarborough, Oshawa, Ottawa, Gatineau, Kitchener-Waterloo, Guelph, Windsor, Kingston, Belleville, Peterborough, Montréal, Halifax and the Outaouais region.

Job Notices will be posted on the CRA Internet website starting in late September or early October. Applicants must use the on-line application to apply. Read the Notice of Job Opportunity carefully and apply early, as the process may limit the number of eligible applications.

The CRA thanks all applicants for taking time to submit an application; however, only those selected for further consideration will be contacted. Selected applicants must be prepared to travel at their own expense for purposes of testing, interviews and placement in a position.
