Student Hiring

We hire students for assignments during the summer and throughout the school year through three different kinds of programs:

  1. The Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP) is the primary program the CRA uses to hire non-co-op students for assignments during tax season, over the summer and for part-time work during the school year. Visit the FSWEP site to apply now.

  2. The Aboriginal Student Employment Program (ASEP) is an employment equity and diversity initiative that addresses the CRA’s need and desire to recruit and develop eligible Aboriginal high school and post-secondary students. By self-identifying on your Federal Student Employment Program (FSWEP) application, you will automatically be considered for the ASEP. An Aboriginal person is defined as a North American Indian or a member of a First Nation, a Métis or an Inuk. North American Indians or members of a First Nation include status, treaty or registered Indians, as well as non-status and non-registered Indians. Click on the FSWEP link above to apply to the FSWEP and remember to self-identify in order to be eligible for an appointment under ASEP.

  3. The CRA also hires students through some Public Service Commission approved internship or co-operative education (co-op) programs. Please check with your school’s internship or co-op program coordinator about an opportunity to apply for an internship or co-op assignment with the CRA.

Graduate Hiring

We hire graduates into a wide range of entry-level positions and apprenticeship or developmental programs.

Entry-level positions that are open to graduates as well as the general public are posted as they come available throughout the year and can be found on our List of Job Notices page. You are encouraged to check this site regularly for opportunities and to apply online as soon as you see a posting.

We also post a number of apprenticeship or developmental programs for graduates at various times throughout the year, including:

Aboriginal Tax Officer Apprenticeship Program (ATOAP)

Auditor Development Program (AU-DEV)

Information Technology Apprenticeship Program (ITAP)

Supply Chain Management Apprenticeship Program (SCMAP)

These apprenticeship or developmental programs are also posted on our List of Job Notices. You are encouraged to check the page regularly and to apply online as soon as you see a posting you are interested in and eligible for.

Additional information for students

Students hired at CRA are eligible to receive pay based on the Students Rates of Pay  as set annually by the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat.

In order to be eligible to be hired as a student at the CRA, you must be enrolled full-time in a provincially accredited institution (high school, college, cégep or university) and be returning to full-time studies in the school term following your assignment. For those working as a student at the CRA during your final term of study, you are only eligible to remain employed (as a student) until you receive your degree or diploma. Students enrolled in school on a part-time basis due to a disability, as recognized by the school, are also considered eligible for employment as a student at the CRA.
