Filing returns

File GST/HST, corporation and information returns (T4, T5 and other types of information returns*) electronically through My Business Account without using a Web access code (WAC). A WAC is a personalized code that the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) assigns to you to access the secure areas of the CRA's Internet filing Web pages.

  • File your GST/HST return/rebate electronically.
  • Complete a T4 Web form for up to six original or amended slips, and file the form as an encrypted return.
  • Transmit information returns of up to 150 MB with Internet File Transfer (XML) by attaching a file in Extensible Markup Language (XML) format.
  • To file your corporation income tax return, you have to use a CRA-certified commercial tax preparation software package. If your corporation's gross revenues are more than $1 million for tax years ending after 2009, you may have to use the Internet to file your T2 return. For more information, see Mandatory Internet Filing for Corporation Income Tax Returns.
*Other types of information returns: T3, T4, T4A, T4A(OAS), T4A(P), T4A-NR, T4E, T4RSP, T4RIF, T5, T5007, T5008, T5018, NR4, AGR-1, T1204, T215, SAFER, RRSP contribution receipts and Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA)

Account balance and activities

(For payroll accounts, see View account balance or View account transactions.)

  • View an interim balance of payments and credits received for a period end of a return not yet processed and a balance for the result of a return processed for a specific period less held credits and any amounts under dispute not yet applied or not yet due.
  • Select any hyperlinked period end, balance or total amount to view the corresponding transactions. You can also select the "Account Transactions" link from the left sidebar menu.
  • Select "Transfer Payment" to transfer a payment/credit from one interim period to another or to an amount owing within and between program accounts of the same 9‑digit business number (BN). This option is available on the left sidebar menu if you have payments/credits in an interim period. This option is not available for payroll accounts; use the Make online requests service to request a transfer to a payroll account.
  • Select "Calculate Future Balance" to view a revised balance that includes interest calculated to a date you select. This option is available on the left sidebar menu if you have an amount owing in a filing period.
  • Select "Customized View" to view account transactions for a timeframe of your choice that may not coincide with a specific period end. You can also select this option from the left sidebar menu and the "Account Transactions" screen.

View correspondence

Make online requests

Request certain financial transactions and communication items for your business account, such as the following:

  • interest review
  • transfer of a credit
  • refunds (except GST/HST accounts)
  • payment search

These financial transaction requests are processed manually, and each request is promptly forwarded to the appropriate tax centre for action.

  • change mailing instructions (stop the CRA from sending paper statements, remittance vouchers and/or envelopes)
  • additional remittance vouchers
  • copies of notices and statements
  • customized statements

In most cases, the system processes these requests within 24 hours. If the system is unable to respond automatically, the requests will be sent to a tax centre for processing. If the request requires correspondence to be generated, it will be sent by regular mail.

Electronic transfer of accounting data (ETAD)

An auditor may invite you to send electronic records through My Business Account to support an audit. The auditor will provide a case number to allow the transmission. A confirmation page is produced when the file is successfully transmitted.

This service is offered as a pilot project in certain offices.

Register a formal dispute (notice of objection or appeal)

Submit a formal dispute to an assessment, reassessment, determination, or redetermination notice we have sent regarding payroll, corporation income taxes, excise duty, or the air travellers security charge.

A confirmation page is produced when a formal dispute is submitted. A CRA employee may contact you for clarification. Since you cannot submit attachments, keep your documents and any other information in case we contact you.

View banking information

View the direct deposit information we have on file for one or more account types. Select either "View banking information" from the applicable account type section or "View all banking information" from the left sidebar menu.

Authorize or manage representatives

As a business owner, you can authorize a representative, including your employee, to access your business account(s) online. Your representative (an individual or a service provider business) must be registered through Represent a Client. To complete the authorization, you will need the RepID of the individual acting for your business or the CRA-issued business number (BN) for a service provider business.

Your personal user ID and password to access My Business Account should not be given to anyone, including your representative.

You can authorize representatives to:

  • view your account information only;
  • view and make changes to your account(s); and
  • view and make changes to your account(s); and allow the representative to authorize, modify, or delete other representatives' access within their authority.

Online authorization gives your representative immediate access to your business accounts. Most services offered through My Business Account are available to representatives. However, your representative will access them through Represent a Client.

View a list of authorized representatives we have on record for the business, and cancel or modify each representative's authorization. You can also choose a date for the authorization to expire.

View activities and transactions performed online for your business account(s), by your authorized representative(s) (including employees).

Manage my profile

Add or delete a BN (if your social insurance number is identified for that BN) for online access. You can also select a BN as the default to be displayed first on your Welcome page.
