  1. Are there any helpful hints on how to use TELEFILE?
    • Press " * " to have a message repeated.
    • Press " 1 " to answer yes, or "0" to answer no.
    • Press " # " when you have finished entering an amount.
    • TELEFILE repeats each entry. To help you file an accurate tax return, you have to confirm each entry. Make any necessary corrections before you confirm your amounts.
    • If you hang up at any time before confirming that you want to file your tax return, the information you entered will not be saved. You can hang up and call again up to a maximum of six times.

  2. Can a rotary phone be used to TELEFILE?
    No. To use the service you have to use a push-button (tone-signaling) phone with touch-tone service.

  3. How long does it take to file using TELEFILE?
    The time it takes to file using TELEFILE depends on your tax situation and the information that you have to provide. On average it takes about 5 minutes for some of the simple tax returns and 10 - 15 minutes for tax returns with more detailed information.

  4. Can I use TELEFILE to change a tax return that I've already filed?

  5. If I use TELEFILE, is my tax return more likely to be selected for review?
    No. The same criteria for verifying income tax returns are used for both paper and electronic versions. You need to keep all your tax information slips and documents for six years after you file your tax return.
