Tribute paid to Mr. Gilles Marceau - Name of Tax Centre in Jonquière honours his memory

Jonquière, Quebec, November 6, 2009 ... The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of National Revenue and Minister of State (Agriculture and Agri-Food), today unveiled a commemorative plaque to celebrate the designation of the Gilles Marceau Building, which houses the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Jonquière Tax Centre.

The building was renamed in honour of the late Gilles Marceau, former federal Member of Parliament and Mayor of Jonquière, who played an instrumental role in the creation and establishment of the Tax Centre.

"I believe that it is important, and at the same time that it is our collective responsibility, to honour those persons who have made a significant contribution to the development of our region," declared Minister Blackburn. "Gilles Marceau was a well‑respected man who served his fellow citizens in an exemplary fashion. The decision to name the Tax Centre building in memory of Mr. Marceau is a fitting tribute to his contribution to public life."

The Jonquière Tax Centre was inaugurated in 1983 and now employs over 500 permanent and 600 part-time employees. It is one of the main employers in the Region.
