GST/HST credit and Canada Child Tax Benefit

Hi, I'm Shaun from the Canada Revenue Agency. It's a busy time here, but I'd like to take a moment to tell you about the GST/HST credit and the Canada Child Tax Benefit. Let's start with the GST/HST credit. It's intended to help individuals and families with low or modest incomes offset part or all of the GST or HST they paid in 2008. To receive the GST/HST credit, just fill out the application area on page one of your 2008 Income Tax and Benefit Return. If you have a spouse or common-law partner, only one of you can receive the credit. Don't forget. You need to re-apply every year, even if you qualified for the credit previously, or have no taxable income to declare this year.

The Canada Child Tax Benefit is a tax-free monthly payment to help eligible families with the cost of raising children under the age of 18. To apply for the Canada Child Tax Benefit, you must complete the form RC66, Canada Child Benefits Application. You can also apply online by going to cra.gc.ca/benefits.

Excuse me, my phone is ringing. I should take this call. Canada Revenue Agency, Shaun speaking, how may I help you?
