General Index of Financial Information (GIFI)

Note

Effective for interim and annual financial statements relating to fiscal years beginning on or after January 1, 2011, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) are replacing Canadian generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) currently applicable to publicly accountable enterprises. These changes have an impact on filing.

The General Index of Financial Information (GIFI) is a standard list of codes that you use to prepare your financial statements.

All corporations (except for insurance corporations) should prepare their financial statement information using the GIFI codes and file it with their T2 returns.

Non-resident corporations should use the GIFI codes when they are reporting in unconsolidated Canadian funds.
