Line 369 - Home buyers' amount

Important Notice
As a result of the home buyers’ amount legislation receiving royal assent on December 15, 2009, the information under line 369, Home buyers’ amount, in the printed version of the 2009 Income Tax and Benefit Guide is not current. The Web pages reflect the updated legislation.

If you have already filed your 2009 return and determine that you were entitled to claim this amount, you can request a reassessment of your return.

You can claim an amount of $5,000 for the Home Buyers' Tax Credit (HBTC) if both of the following apply:

  • you or your spouse or common-law partner acquired a qualifying home after January 27, 2009, (closing after this date); and
  • you did not live in another home owned by you or your spouse or common-law partner in the year of acquisition or in any of the four preceding years (first-time home buyer).
